Teaching Mathematics in America
This web site exists to promote good and fair teaching of mathematics in the United States.
Without math we can not succeed in science and technology. And, while a lucky few are exceling at the subject, the middle class are falling further and further behind; in math.
It seems like nearly everyone wants to either be a stockbroker or doctor. There aren't enough people interested in science and technology.
With a math teacher shortage and with the average person without math skills it is a hard road for any "regular" youngster to pull themselves up by their boot straps.
Imported Science
We are currently importing science from all over the world. Fortunately, we have the economic prowess to attract these type of workers.
It is, however, imperative that our own people have the intellectual capacity. Other countries are rising rapidly while we grow intellectually at a slower rate. Test scores around the world show that America is not even close to being the best math nation.
The Future
The solution is simple. Teaching mathematics requires great teachers and the discipline to get the job done. We need to make math fun, rewarding, and cool.
Government policies have created systemic math teaching problems (i.e. shortages). The solutions are quite simple. It's just a matter of doing it.
How would you feel if a math teacher made triple the money than that of a physical education teacher? This is the main part of the problem. Some people have a hard time with others doing better; especially other teachers.
National Science Foundation
In light of all this, the National Science Foundation has offered millions of dollars to people willing to do graduate work in mathematics. If you are an American, and want to learn graduate mathematics, a scholarship awaits you. Ask your school how to apply.
